MOU with the RCS Glasgow

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertaining to the MD Surgery Examination.

The MoU is a land mark initiative between the two Colleges; both institutions recognize the value of working together to develop postgraduate surgical training and continuous professional development. The College Presidents, Professor M D Lamawansa, College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, and Professor David Galloway, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, signed the document on a recent visit to Glasgow. The MOU was made public during the monthly council meeting of the CSSL last Friday the 15th of December where Professor Galloway joined in from Glasgow by video link. Coincidentally, Hon Dr Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Health, too happened to be in the hall as he was making an informal visit to the ‘home’ of the surgeons.

The MD Surgery Examination, conducted by the PGIM was recently reviewed and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow was pleased to offer the award of Membership of their College to successful graduates of the MD Surgery Examination.

Over the next five years the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow will participate in examining and quality assurance for the MD Surgery Examination.  Both Colleges   look forward to working in partnership to the mutual benefit of both organizations as well as the post graduate trainees in Sri Lanka and the UK.
